About Us
The mission of the GIS and Cartographic Services Lab is to assist USF's academic community, and other organizations in the Tampa Bay region, with creating visually descriptive GIS- and mapping- related solutions that are grounded by science. We are an auxiliary service provider within the Geography Department in the College of Arts and Sciences, however, we often work in partnership with other USF groups and serve the entire campus community. Our shared goal is to introduce and make geospatial technologies available to a wide variety of researchers and professionals in the greater Tampa Bay area.
The lab's focus is the integration of new progressive technologies with traditional research methodologies and communications techniques. We design, compile, and produce professional publication quality maps and graphics using the latest mapping, illustration and multi-media software technology and equipment. We also offer a range of services to facilitate accurate and effective analyses with Geographic Information Systems. In addition, the lab hosts workshops that focus on the use of GIS in a variety of applications. Most of our efforts are collaborative and are designed to bring together the benefits of academic research and development with the resources of governmental agencies and the private sector to provide the state and region with effective spatial technologies, trained practitioners, low-cost digital data, and high-quality cartographic representation.
Our state-of-the-art facility is located on the second floor of the Natural and Environmental Sciences building (NES 222) on the Tampa Campus (campus map). |
